You guys have sold me on the Miata. Well, I've been sold on it since last last year, BUT STILL. The hunt for a decent shape NA Miata starts now. Over the coming weeks, expect a butt load of questions. I'll do my best to search for the answers and ask the local Miata owners, but I have the mind of an engineer, so year. Questions. Lots of questions.
And duh, of course I'm going to get a manual. I'll learn it as I drive and hopefully fall in love with the answer to everything.
Ultimately the only thing that may prevent me from getting one is stupid job related shit.

Pop up headlamps and it's probably the easiest for me to find, and afford. Plus most of the Miatas around here are NA, so I'd be in good hands were I to encounter NA specific problems. I've only seen one NB around here.
I would imagine it's also the closest in terms of matching the classic British roadsters it's meant to recreate the image of in terms of performance?

Yes but the 01+ NB's have VVT and bigger brakes and better suspension stock. ( not that they will stay stock for long, you will mod it :)
I bought my NB for a very good price with 56,xxx miles on it. Best decision of my life so far.
If you are looking for a NA stay away from the 90-92 years as they were most problematic. Also the 1.8 is a little peppier than the 1.6
Also check out miata.net and there FAQ's. Lots of help on that sight. And a great forum as well

My first car was a 89' Miata and I loved it! As I am sure you will too, some advice I can give you is dont be afraid of high mileage, mine had 218,000 miles when I bought it on the original engine and never had engine problems. It was a pretty reliable car. Pretty much every time it broke was my fault because I did something dumb, like crash it... But one thing I say look out for is a leaky gas tank mine leaked and it's a huge problem and bill :/

What area are you in?
There's a huge Miata crowd in the Phoenix area, and I've got a friend who's the most OCD / Engineer-minded Miata owner I know who lives in Alabama. Both would be valuable sources if you're in either area.
